Winter: The Perfect Time to Host a Clothing Drive

shutterstock_94115491Winter is quickly approaching, and with it comes the holidays. It’s a warm and fuzzy time of year, where the cold weather and the generosity between loved ones reminds us to think of the less fortunate. The holiday season is a popular time of year for charity fundraising, and most of us do what we can.

With the holidays come extra expenses that make supporting charity not as easy as other times of the year. TWD has found a way to make giving easy for everyone, without impacting the family budget.

By hosting a used clothing drive through your work, school or place of worship, you can raise funds for your favourite charity or cause, all while reducing landfills and creating awareness about the positive potential of textile recycling.

If ‘the holidays’ really aren’t for you, hosting a clothing drive in January and February could really help in raising donations at a time where charities usually feel a slump in support. And, pre-Spring is the perfect time for a closet purge!

Whatever time of year works for your school, place of worship or business, TWD will help you maximize the fundraising potential, and we’ll do all the work!

For businesses or organizations with multiple locations across Southern Ontario, we can help you arrange fun contests between locations to add to the fun!

The potential is exciting! The average garbage bag full of used textiles weighs 25 pounds. If your company has 1,000 employees across the province who each brought 1 bag, that would be 25,000 lbs of textiles diverted from a landfill! Your charity of choice earns money per pound of what you collect.

We’ll also issue a media release and charity blog post announcing your organization’s waste diversion accomplishment and contribution to the program.

To help facilitate the drive, we arrange a pick up date in advance to avoid your organization from having to store donations for long.

Accepted bagged donations include used clothing, shoes, boots, purses, coats, jackets, linens, drapery and eyeglasses.

If you can’t decide on a charity to donate to, Canadian Community Support Foundation supports many different charities across Ontario. By supporting CCSF, you support them all!
